Now see, you had to go and show me that. Could you have set the bar any higher man? Actually, that is AWESOME. I will be happy with anything even close to that. Thanks for the link.

Wedenesday 7-15-09 off work today so i got a huge head way on the deck. i told ya id show ya a lil trick to stiffen up a 1/2 floor and save weight over 3/4 inch floor. pictured below is 4 2x4x8 split in half long ways these lil wonders help me create a ladder system effectively reducing the load by reducing the span. i dont understand how starcraft thought spanning 2 feet at some points would stay rigid. but anyhow here some pics

got my load a lumber also found some 5 ply 1/2 at my local lumber yard. home depot only had 3 ply. remember not all 1/2 plywood is the same. 5 plys way stronger than 3!!

then i ripped 4 2x4's for my cross bracing

P1010571.jpg

also i dont know if you guys use this caulk or not but i use it over any marine stuff 5200 4200 whatever this is better IMO and at 4.50 a tube i dont have to remortgage the house. its a polyurethane based and never seperates or release like silicone would i found it to be a very similar makeup of the marine grade stuff
P1010580.jpg

step one was to go down the stringers and cross brace everywhere there was a seam i doubles it up and yes i will still use the metal strips from the factory

7-15-09 cont..

now i added these lil wings towards the oustide just 5 down each side in the cockpit area almost every other rib this was to accept my 1/2 plywood for the cockpit area to double up my thickness for pedestal seating later i also added one centered towards the back in case i add a rear pedestal at a later date. these wings were 1/2 down from deck level to come out even when i add my 1/2 decking

P1010582.jpg

P1010583.jpg

now i packed in my flotation down the center and added my "wings" and rear center piece these were coated with waterproofing on the bottom and will be done on top as well at a later time.

P1010585.jpg

im pretty much ready for decking and will be using my old templates tomorrow to cut my new decking and get a coat of waterproofing on those as well. im attaching everything with 2 inch coated deck screws in my cross bracing and 1 inch self tapping phillips head screws everywhere else along the rib edges and center stringers should be solid with no squishy soft spots when we got the chinese firedrill going when were filling the boat with walleyes!! :)

also you will see i added cross bracing between the bracing i put in if you look you will see no span over 16" anywhere and i only used 4 whole 2x4's and one extra half a sheet of 1/2 than factory original lots of weight savings over 3/4 and cheaper as well

Chad when I saw the first pic with the WOOD stringers I almost started to cry . I was happy to at least see none of them are touching the hull . Some PO of my Jupiter thought it would be a good idea to put wood stringers in it only they went all the way and screwed them through the bottom of the hull ( FROM UNDERNEATH ). I will be installing 24-25 new rivets in my hull when I flip her upside down to fill the holes.

lol oh no screws thru the hull the only place the wood touches the hull its in a deep bed of OSI quad caulk. everything else is hanging off the center stringers

Chad, I would be a little leary of the double layers of ply for the deck... its the perfect place for any moisture that may make its way in there...

i noticed while ripping mine out that there was a substantial amount of water trapped between the sheets.

Re: 1976 Starcraft SuperSport 22' Overhaul Lotsa Pics

im not worried at all as previously stated this boat will not be neglected outdoors uncovered. the boat is 30 years old.. so lets say yes my system will have a shorter life the an the twice as expensive system of resin and cloth. ok whats a shorter life. its was 30 years before and was outside uncovered for 12 years unattended and certain spots were still ok.. alrite say my floor only lasts 10 years... now the boats over 40 years old.. maybe it lasts 15 were getting close to a 50 year old boat. at this point metal fatigue would worry me more than replacing a floor again. yes your resin and cloth system will last 30 years but being this is now my 6th boat i've rebuilt using a similar system the oldest restore over 10 years ago and going strong im not to leary all. alot of it is all about maintenance dont leave it in the rain keep it covered the only time its gonna get wet is when the fishings to good to come in from rain.

I commented on your cool boat when ya joined & posted in the Starcraft forum...

You are mos def kicking arse!!

I used basically the same bracing between the alum stringers as you did, used 2x4s sealed with fence post waterproofing, thats all. Kinda the same thought if it last 10 years even..well that's a helluva long time.

Keep up the pace..You'll be done, what next week?? lol
