LOL I paid almost $50.00 for the box of 250 Closed end rivets I got to fill the extra holes in the bottom of my hull . With any luck they will work when I pull the inside trim to polish it .

Chad - the boat looks good! I almost regret not using carpet in my resto - I just think it looks better, plus the dog's claws won't scratch carpet. Iboats forums talked me out of it though. I can always add it later.

My Fastenal store wouldn't sell me anything less than $75 worth of rivets either. I needed three sizes - that would've been $225 worth. Home Depot had small boxes of them for less than $10 - that's what I used.

I grew up in Ann Arbor. You gonna haul that boat to the big lakes?

Here you go chad! http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=260400

Yours is looking great as well. The carpeted bulkheads look great. And I'm also a fan of frp. That stuff is awesome. Probably lots of potential uses for it in boatbuilding.

Chad look down at the links at the bottom of my post :D I have tried to make it easy to find for you guys :D. The hard way is to go to the Starcraft forum which there is a link to down in the boat name listings down near the bottom of the main site page :D. I asked JB to Sticky it for us so it would be easier to find :D.

Re: 1976 Starcraft SuperSport 22' Overhaul Lotsa Pics

8-9-09 today was engine day kinda sorta lol. it was about 96 heat index here in mid michigan today so getting in the boat didnt sound very inticing so working on the engines was something to keep progress going. everyday you gotta do something or youll never get done!

so i removed the rusty stubborn steering cable and found the tube on the outboard to be the rusty culprit. needed a brush to get in there.. went to the local marina and said WTF 30 bucks for a pipe cleaner! lol i dont think so. off to Home Depot for a 2 dollar 3/4 copper pipe cleaner from the plumbing aisle. then a 1/2 wood rod from the trim aisle 1.50 so for 3.50 we had a pipe cleaner! attach to drill with 1/2 chuck and bam job done!!

IMG00131.jpg

now im just waiting on the steering cable to get here in the mail mon or tuesday

ok no decarbing these unused engines!!! the main engine has not been fired in 12 years the kicker hasnt been fired in 10 years so after a careful once over on both engines and a lil ignition work on the kicker you can see my thread here for what i did on the kicker http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=338630 i got that up and running but figured a decarbing wouldnt worked. i picked up some sea foam and a can of deep creep this stuff is my new favorite friend for a quick cleanout on any small engine heres a still pic of the kicker idling thru its first seafoam mixture

Hey i took some Vids yes its from my phone but you get the idea! first one is my kicker idling thru its second tank of decarb mixture

second video is while i add some deep creep if you listen you can hear the motor bog down and you cant really see the black cloud of carbon that comes out with it. sorry its a lil distorted i was kinda close with the phone.

and finally after 12 years of rest the 140 evinrude roars to life. idles like its never missed and beat and crying to me to drop her in the nearest lake and drop the hammer down on it! i almost felt bad for her she wants to go! i havent decarbed her yet just let her idle happily i needed to tilt the engine a bit i think i have a air bubble stuck in it as the port side as getting a lil warm as it sat with that side higher flipped it the other way and it cooled down. cant wait to get my lil pee hole to add a tell tale to it!

Music to my ears. Those vids. Gotta love old V4s! When we first got my boat we hooked a battery and water up to the old motor which like yours hadn't been run in many years. It fired up and ran. Not quite on all cyliners but we could see one of the coils working. Amazing old machines for sure. Here's what you have to look forward to http://s176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/Boat Project/?action=view&current=HoleShot.flv

Hey Chad great work on the SS! I like how you're rolling with the original earth-tone color scheme. That 140hp will get ya back in if Saginaw Bay picks up when the wind comes in from the NE:D If the bay picks up?!? I mean when the bay picks up I know plenty how quickly Lake Huron weather/wind changes.

Will you be throwing on a kicker bracket?

yeah NE on the bay equals pucker factor of 10 real fast! i got caught in 4 footers in my 18foot SS a few years ago it was a lil freaky but im alive! i hope to mount the kicker directly to the transom and use a bracket pro to support it in transit. i have a bracket if i feel theres not enough room havent mounted it up yet though
