hi everyone i just bought a starcraft deck boat with a 200hp outboatd on it...the starter number is 50-86976...and the serial # to my engine is 6083704....i know that the starter should have a 9 tooth starter drive and mine does...but there is also another starter for this engine that has a 8 tooth starter drive...is there a way to check to make sure the flywheel matches up to my starter... and if it doesnt match how hard would it b to find a flywheel and change it out........thanks toby

Why do you suspect a wrong flywheel?

Changing it is pretty easy. You have to have a flywheel puller which threads into the center hole in the flywheel after you remove the flywheel nut. You then drive the flywheel off the crank with the bolt that goes down through the puller.
DO NOT USE AN IMPACT WRENCH.
Don't even think of trying to pull it with a jaw type puller, and if your flywheel has a ring of bolts in the top, do not remove them. All you'll get is the outer shell. The hub and the timing magnets will stay on the motor.

If you had the wrong drive, there would be ovbious uneven wear on the starter drive gear, if it would even engage the flywheel. If it's normal looking, yer probably all right.

hope it helps
