Need Help With 1985 150 HP Evinrude

The engine sounds like it is runnining out of gas. I can get the boat on plane and run for about five minutes and then the engine bogs. I can pump the bulb and it will do the same thing again. I had someone pump the bulb while we were running and as long as he pumped the bulb every few minutes the boat would run fine. Im thinking maybe a bad bulb or bad fuel pump. Also can this engine be fitted with the old style fuel pump and do away with the vro pump? We have been mixing the oil and gas for years and dont need the vro. Any suggestions? Thanks

Yes your fuel pump needs to be rebuilt. Don't know about changing it tho.

Ran one of these for years with a few "mild" problems. Built in tank or remote? is it breathing properly? Also could be air in the fuel line. fuel filter blocked? water in fuel or stale fuel? you can bypass vro pump but need to plug certain points first. Lovely engines just a bit thirsty! Glenn

built in tank new gas filter is clean carbs have been cleaned I dont see any leaks around any of the hose connections vent hose is not clogged. Is there a kit available to go to the 84 style fuel pumps.

not sure on a kit but a simple phone call to your dealer should guide you, not a big job. I had an '83 on factory pump, good as gold. Found breather on tank had been installed incorrectly and water was blocking it mid way. tank would literally invert!
