sorry if this was already answered a 100 times I did search quickly and didn't come up with any answers:

I just got a 86 grummen with a 120 merc strendrive. It ran for a while but now there is too much gas getting in the carb. There is a steel fuel line and a rubber hose and the gas coming from the rubber hose is flooding the motor. I had to squeeze that hose off to get off the lake last night. Is this a problem with the carb of fuel pump?

Is there a yellowish/clearish line that goes from the fuel pump to the carb separate from a steel line that is full of gas?????

If there is... replace the pump.

yes that is the hose i am talking about. a small maybe a 1/4 dia. clearish hose. Fuel is getting sprayed into the carb from that hose every rev and totally flooding the engine.

You need a new fuel pump. That line is a "telltale" (probably wrong word for it) to tell you that your fuel pumps diaphram has rupltured internally.

,
Thanks I actually already knee jerked to fuel pump but so many people were telling me carb, your floats are stuck and I couldn't accept that. I had my girlfreind pick it up from the store and theu gave her the wrong one. Now I have the old one off and hopefully they will have one the right one in stock

You need to find a new parts guy.....

Your pump is part # 26234A05 and it goes for $285, it is most certainly available.

You can substitute part # 32722 which runs for $88 bucks, but you may have to clock it to get the fuel line fittings to line up. That pump does not have a bellhousing for a fuel filter... but if your using a good fuel water seperating filter you don't really need it.

Re: 86 merc 120 HP flooding problem

Well I got the rebuild kit. It isn't too hard to do. The only road block I have found is getting the pin out that woulds the lever. Any ideas how to remove the pin. I have removed the brass cap that holds it in but I cannot seem to get the pin far enough out to grab it.
With the GF's help I got it out. :)
thanks everyone. Now I can try and start the boat again.
