Hello all, I have a 1988 Sea Ray Seville with the 4.3L 262 CI. Just recently had the heads redone, which are non vortec.. Now it sounds like there is a knock in the bottom end, and we have been having alot of blowby. Thinking it's rod bearings. Can anyone give me insight as to how hard it is to pull the engine out? Main thing I am concerned about is how the engine bolts to the outdrive. I have much experience on engines, and none on how the engine bolts to the outdrive. It looks as if it pulls straight up and out because I can see 2 bolts straight up and down on the bellhousing. It has the Alpha One outdrive.. Does anyone know where I can find a breakdown schematic of these things? Thanks all :confused::confused:

What brand is in your rig?
Pulling an engine from a boat is easier than in a car.

From what i have heard about seloc manuals, scrape them and go to the sticky section of the forum and download the manual for your model and use that one instead as it is a merc manual from what i here and i have used it and it is alot better.

Did the new heads cause the problem?

No I don't believe the heads had anything to do with it.. I did get the engine out late last night, took the oil pan off and #1 rod is what was knocking. There was a piece of metal in the oil port on the crank that was obviously blocking oil to the rod. There was still bearing there so i'm pretty sure the crank is ok.. Now to find main and rod bearings, I called sea ray and they cannot cross over a merc number to a GM part number.. Any ideas? I have 2 merc numbers 23-818465 and 23-11992(001)

Used one of those, and I've also used a backhoe. Prefer the boom truck, but sometimes you just have to use what is available. It depends quite a bit on the operator though. I've had good and bad experiences with both, and it depended on who was at the controls.
