Hey guys!

I wanted to give you the good news... just bought a new boat 2004 Polar 18' CC with a 04 Yamaha 90/hp 2 stroke. The boat arrives on Wed but I had a couple of questions. first, I heard this is a solid reliable motor and the oil injection system is easy to work with. Second, what oil do I use in the oil tank. They guy told me just put regular marine 2 storke oil in there and the motor mixes it for me. Is this right? I don't need like Optimax stuff. Also, is it okay to run seafoam or fuel stabilzer to keep the carbs from gumming up with this system? I bought this boat with the reviews and assistance on Yamaha from this forum! Any ideas on top speed with boat and motor?

Thanks for your help.

I can't wait.

same motor as mine, 90HP 2 stroke, about as dependable and bulletproof as they get. I've run mine since new in 1999 with no problems at all, the main thing is clean, fresh fuel. I run Pennzoil Marine 100% Synthetic from Walmart($27/gallon), Stabil Marine fuel stabilizer all the time, a bit more if you're not going to run the motor for several weeks or months, Yamaha Ringfree all the time, a fuel/water seperator(Walmart $27)or the Yamaha units are great also. check/clean plugs(carb cleaner and toothbrush) from time to time. drain carbs with 10MM brass hex plugs on float chambers once or twice a year just to be sure. Good Luck!

regarding performance, at 5500RPM you'll probably see around 42 MPH. you can go to Yamaha Outboard Performane Bulletins for a chart showing your performance in MPH, GPH, MPG, at each RPM range. Best mileage usually around 3500RPM. I rarely run at max 5500RPM because the motor uses a lot of fuel at that speed.
