My little zodiac s130 raft's rubber hull started pulling away from the wooden transom at the back of the boat (outside the boat, not inside) the boat is 19 years old and we have had ongoing repairs on the seams connecting the tubes to the floor. I am wondering if the glue that i have been using to glue the pvc rubber together can be used on the transom or if i need to purchase a different type for this rubber to wood bond.

Wow, 19 years old PVC boat? Is the material still holding up well enough to repair it? I've seen a PVC boat that was around 15 years old, the rubber was cracking up and basically it was time to retire it.

The boat sat wrapped neatly in a tarp under our house for a good 15 years and was used 3 or 4 times in that span, so the tubes are in great condition minus some scuff marks. I called the inflatable boat center and they said to use the same pvc glue ive been using.

Re: Transom/hull repair zodiac s130

I have a zodiac that had transom rot. I fixed the transom with penatrating resin and now want to glue back the bottom rubber channel. But the transom is not perfectly smooth and I dont think the pvc glue will work...Is there some sort of caulk material that could help with the rough surface and still hold the rubber to the wood? george

For gluing PVC to wood, you have to use Thermotane 95 (Code 7148 from Zodaic) to "prime" the wood. The correct procedure is"
Preparing the wood/plywood surface
? Sand completely to remove varnish or paint
? Use a hard brush to remove all dust.
? Check that no oil rises to the surface again. If it does, re-sand.
? Use a paint brush to apply a fine, even coat of primer.
? Wait and let dry at least 20mn before proceeding to gluing.
