Install trim and guage on 2000 Johnson 50 OB

I recently ordered and received (from OMC) a new power trim sending unit, guage, and what they called a wiring harness. The directions for the sending unit are fairly clear. The installation of the guage itself should not be a problem, but there were no wiring instructions for it.
The wiring harness, though, does not seem to correspond with the wire colors on the sending unit, hence my request for assistance from someone.
The sending unit has three wires (black and green are fused together on the same terminal, and one white wire)
The "harness" is about 18" long, and has two wires, a separate black wire, and a purple wire. My console is about 10 feet from the motor on my pontoon.
Am I missing something? Does the guage not hook up directly to the sending unit? Does it run off some existing wiring in the console? Or do I need to splice in some extra? Directions do not say? What hooks up to what, as it relates to the guage?
Thank you. Roger

well when you take originaly guage out you should have to remove some wires but it should hook up straight to sending unit black and green on sending are ground wires white is hot black on gauge is ground so it hooks to green and black on sending unit and purple is hot so it hooks to the white wire on sending and yes you may have to splice in some extra you have to think its a universal kit and not everyones console is same distance from the motor... hope this helps....buddy<------------this is actually my name i swear im not callin you buddy lol

I appreciate the information. This is a new installation. I will be drilling a hole in my console next to the other guages, and starting from scratch.

What you sent should be helpful ..... thank you.

Roger
