Re: newbie

I have a smaller cruiser (2001 Larson 270 with Volvo Penta 5.7 GSI engine) very happy with the brand and power. Easy to dock, fuel efficient with the notch in the hull, comfortable for 2 adults and 2 kids with the dog. One word of advice, what ever you get...DON'T SKIP ON THE AIR CONDITIONING!!! Good Luck.

Re: newbie

I'm down in that area a lot. I'm in a club with my other hobby (O gauge model trains) and most of the members are in MD. I'm regularly in Ellicott City, Sykesville, Cockeysville and am going to a picnic in Reisterstown tomorrow. I would someday love to have a cruiser myself. I have "shopped" for them online from time to time for purely entertainment purposes. I decided that I would ideally start with something in the 24-26' range with a singe V8 I/O. I don't think I'm interested in the maintenance of 2 engines and drives. I especially like ones with an aft cabin. We have a son and it looks like a good use of space. I was very surprised at how nice a boat it looks like you could get for under $20k especially considering what these boats go for new. I don't think you can go wrong brand-wise in this segment. Even Bayliner cruisers are pretty decent. I would personally stick with Mercruiser or Volvo drives. I don't need the possibly headache of finding parts for an OMC.
