no spark to one plug

just helped rewire 1978 80hp mercury outboard we replaced all the wiring harnesses and anything electrical we could buy. All the wire was rotted. Now we cant get spark to number one plug. The only thing original is the ignition box? We were told they hardly ever go bad . Is there a way to check it before i dump another $400.00 into the motor?

The only way to check a box is if you have a DVA you can check input and output or simply swap the output wires from the one that don't fire to one that does if the lack of spark goes to the other cyl. the box is bad.

just tested the ignition box. the terminal was bad. I don't mind buying a new one now that i know this one is bad. cant thank you enough for your help thanks again.
