Velocity stack and carb spacer question

I have a 2005 Bayliner 185 with a 135 HP mercruiser 4 cyl. Would a carb spacer or velocity stack give me any extra umph?

We love the boat and it is CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP to run, particularly compared to my old 270 SeaRay which drank about 20 - 22 gallons per hour. Just wondering.

I take it the velocity stack is to increase air speed, into a flat intake manifold?

Yep. I am just wondering if there is anything I can do that will improve the performance without wasting time or money or ruining a great little motor.

Re: Velocity stack and carb spacer question

A carb spacer has been known to increase torque, because it extends the length of the intake manifold plenum. That was the principle of the old sucessful Dodge/Plymouth ramcharger engines. I don't know how much you'd gain though? I doubt you can get anything long enough to make much difference anyway, usually the spacers are only 1/2" -1" long.

But there was a member on here that supposedly was gonna put an old Chevy 2 Nova 4cyl racing cam in his 3.0 engine, but we never heard back from him, if it fit? I even tried to PM him with no results? The cam specs looked good too, all you need is about .060 more lift all around, & that would do the trick.

Thanks! I was googling around yesterday and came across a weber page that looked interesting. I thought two webers with stacks might help as well.

I will check into the cam. Have you heard of anyone making a performance exhaust for the 4 cylinder?

That four cylinder is at the the top of reliable performance, in OEM configuration.
To get a seat of the pants feel performance change, you'd have to spend more than you think.

I would not waste the money.
best bang would be to switch your prop.
You can always do what the racers do and gut your boat to get the weight down.
