hello everyone,i have a question about my powerhead it has 125 lbs of compression in the top cylinder and 90 in the lower one.i found a guy that has one that will work with new bore and pistons from a 1996 with a 1992 crankshaft that he says will work so i purchased it and since doing so looked it up on shop.evinrude.com and from 1987 to 1991 the part # of the crankshaft is the same and on a 1992 it is a different # but appears to look the same....can anyone chime in and help

Do a decarbon procedure on that engine before you do anything else. 90psi is awfully high for a damaged cylinder.

i tried that it didnt help i still had 90 lbs (i hear 125 and 90 arent good numbers together) and it was running bad at low rpms popping and spitting when i had it on the muffs so i pulled the head off and the cylinder is pretty worn and there is quite a bit of movement of the piston i guess its called piston slop or slap.i sure hope this unit fits like the guy selling it says it will

Because of our wonderful legal system you can take anybody to court. But it sounds to me like you bought a 20yo boat without checking it out, or having someone look at it to verify the sellers claims. Lesson learned, fix it and move on. Im with JB, if there is that much noticable movement in the piston, 90psi seems very high.

i know what your saying sueing has gottn out of hand to say the least...but im very frustrated paying that price for an 1800 dollar boat at best listed in excellent condition

when i decarbed the cylinders the one with 125 lbs was choking out pretty easily as i sprayed it in th carb and the other one was blowing the stuff right out the exhaust and wasnt attempting to stall so i let it set for a while then started it and rechecked compression with no difference in readings.thats when i decided to pull the head off and seen scoreing on both cylinders worse of course on the one with lower compression.im assuming this should have about 150 lbs of compression and the scoreing is why the compression is so guageing so low.am i correct and in need a rebuild?
