Rookie mechanic & jr. helper bent my bravo one shift cable upon drive installation Either jaws did not make correct contact or were closed. I just happened to be there at the time they pulled boat from water & overheard them saying it was not connected correctly. I just received the yard bill included was a bill for 2 hours labor to replace lower shift cable at $190.00 & $151.58 for cable Tot.$341.58. The owner of the boat yard is I thouhgt a honest man. You know mechanics & yards have a way of turning this around. It was not bent when the drive was off. Am I wrong ?What would you do?

If you have the knowledge that it was not, overheard them state they messed it up, I would have a polite, but frank conversation with the owner, and allow the owner to come the to conclusion that you should not have to pay for the cable and time.

If this did not work, I would pay for the cable, as you do have a new cable, have them eat the labor and then I would not come back to the dealer.

If they damaged your boat, they are obligated to correct the issue at no cost to you. End of discussion.

if the owner is a man of principle, he will do the right thing. accidents happen.

if not, hook up your boat, and let him know you will now direct any business you can away from him. He will change his tune real quick.

On the one hand - I would suggest you communicate directly with the boss.
A frank and to the point discussion is in order.
You are being billed for complete, professional maintenance and repair.

On the other hand, You overheard some employees....but is the boat not operating properly? Is your problem with the boat or an overheard discussion about a bent something on what could be any boat.

If the boat is still broken, the yard needs to make good.

Why was the outdrive removed in the first place? Was there a problem with shifting or gears? Maybe cable needed replacement anyway. Need more info.

Talk to the man in charge, we never charge people here at our dealership if we caused something to break. Sometimes even if it wasn't our fault. Case in point, we have a free car wash for our customers, a lady had a star in the windshield and it was a hot day, car went through the wash and the windshield then cracked from the star. We ended up replacing it even though it was an obvious prior problem. So talk to the man in charge, also I would not let those rookies work on anything of mine again.

It's very likely that the owner/service manager never knew that the rookie and helper did the damage. They covered their butts by simply adding those items to the list of work done on your boat. The manager or office clerk then made up the bill.

Bring it to the owner's attention and give him a chance to get to the bottom of it. Don't draw conclusions until you KNOW that he knows what happened.

Solved! It turns out to be the bookeepers error. I should not have been charged for cable or labor according to Mechanic? They will send new invoice
