Hi All,

I am looking to put in offer in on a used Larson 19 footer. I checked it out last night and it looks like it is in good shape. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this boat and what to expect (handling, know problems, etc). I am looking to offer $1700-1800 for it. Let me know!

Thanks,

John

A 19' will be a real slug with a 3.0. You're going to want a 4.3 minimum.

What do you think the top-speed would be?

I love mine just got it 4 months ago and love it the inside of the boat was in perfect condition. The outside was a little faded on the red but a little vasline and it looked like new..
I paid 2500 for the boat its a 19ft he was looking to sell it for 3000. I did even up having to pay 1000 bucks at the boat shop for all new oil change bildge and etc just regular maintance. But i did have to get new steering cables because mine where bad. 600 bucks later but its soo much better now.here is a link for evrery option and feature the boat has. Im putting a new sterio in my all american this weekend :D lmk if you have any more questions

This thread is useless without pictures.

While it's true that the hull is least valuable piece on the boat, it's the part we always fall in love with.

Personally, the Larson All Americans remind me of late 70's/early 80's GM and Chev trucks. And I've always loved those trucks.

Doesn't look like a real heavy hull so it might do OK with the 3.0 but I wouldn't expect to put 4 people in it and pull a skier.

Nice looking. If the prop is dinged up there might be some leg problems either now or develop over time. If the paint is just worn away that's okay.

I would probably pay what you are willing to offer, assuming it floats and runs okay. Also when you try it out, see how easily it shifts into forward and reverse. If it's hard to shift, there could be problems that might be expensive to fix later.

Course, I'm in Canada and a boat like that asking price would be going for $6000 - 8000, not even kidding.

Wow that nice and you have the top for it too. Mine didnt come with one I like that ladder its mad long man mine i only have too steps and its a pain in the *** I would def go for it dont worry if its fadded vasline will do the trick to bring the color back. And if the prop is dinged alittle bit dont worry to much it happend to all of them. Just make sure its not bent or have a huge chip out of it. alls my control box is stiff like i said and is 600 to replace so check it out but it wont hurt anything like the guy above mentioned just be a little stiffer to move. IS ITS POSSIBLE HE WILL TAKE YOU FOR A TEST DRIVE

My point is that if the control box is stiff, the problem is _likely_ not the control box...

It will shift easily forward, but reverse gets hung up and he said the motor will shut off. He said he had it looked at last year and it needs a new shift cable, (which he bought and will give to me free) but he never had the work done.

Re: Looking at a 1989 Larson All American 190

Well, here's my thoughts...

When I purchased my last boat. The motor hadn't been run in 2 years. So, I said, I'll pay what your asking, however, I'd first like to have a mechanic tune the motor up, get it running, to make sure the motor is ok.

If it is, boat is sold, if its not, you've gotten a free tune up from me, and we both can go our separate ways. He agreed, I paid $225.00 for a tune up (Force outboard, had the carbs cleaned, new reeds, etc) at his mechanic (who was a good one).

I was fine with that...b/c if I did buy the boat, I would have to pay for the same work anyway...so why not protect myself?

My suggestion for you is to pay to have the shift cable installed, give him a deposit so you're all locked in, then water trial, make sure its all good.

If not, you're only out that repair, but may have saved yourself so much more...if its good, that piece of work is already done.

Just a thought.

yeah it could be the cable but that would be cheaper to replace..:D what else do you think it could be im thinking its the box but really not sure. Please help me figure it out so i dont buy a new box and its not the fix.

Also put up a form if the shift cable goes bad if it would kill the engine

Ya know this is actually a pretty darn good idea. It's kinda like paying for a marine survey except you get something tangible out of it!

Thanks! I thought it wasn't the worst thought I've ever had either. If he balks at letting his own mechanic do the work, then I would say its time to walk away.
