So...I don't watch very much tv but if I do it is usually fishing or hunting shows on the Outdoor channel(inFishermen and match fishing are excellent).

I was out fishing with my 3-year-old son, his little brother(1) and of course their mother and he caught a nice-sized catfish on his little scooby-doo shakespeare closed-face rod/reel combo. He gets the whiskered little monster close to the boat and we pull it in...to our surprise he bellows authoritatively into the quiet evening "BOOYAH!!!"

Apparently the Outdoor Channel YUM commercials where pro bass fishermen do the same has had quite the effect on him and he felt it was appropriate to celebrate.:D

He let me know that the huge(to him) catfish "almost split my pole in half" and he also wanted to take it home to put in the fish tank(55 gallon still not quite big enough).:) That kid cracks me up.

We had a few laughs and he actually ended up catching a nice smallmouth bass a little while later. He has some pretty good luck with the scooby-doo kids pole and that makes me very happy and proud.;)

And he didn't kiss it too... :D

Some of those shows crack me up,,, LOOK at the size of this ______, IT's huge. and the guy is holding up a 2-3# something or another LOL

My daughter ate a dessert at Mimi's called a "Dirt Cup", ground up chocolate cake with a few gummy worms thrown in... After that we went off to Wally World. Thinking of the desert she ate I went to the worm cooler, popped the cover off a container of nightcrawlers and let her check them out. She checked out the squirming mess and then asked if she could eat it. No, you can't eat the worms... Waaa Waaa Waaa, but I want to eat the worms daddy :D

It's a good thing to teach your kids to fish. I always say " get your kids hooked on fishing before they get hooked on drugs". My oldest daughter caught her first monster ( 47" pike) skinny looking thing and Good thing I measured it cause every time see talks about it, it grows an INCH. LOL

Thanks for the kind replies:)

My son tells me he wants to catch a muskie or a sucker next...so he may get upgraded from the 3ft scooby-doo to a more suitable pole for larger species.

That pole is so lucky that I'm tempted to throw some 12lb braided line on it and tell him to have at it;)

My little girl was watching us scoop some lard into a deep fat fryer one day, and insisted that she get a spoonful of it. It looked so good. (like ice cream)

We gave her one. She remembers it to this day, 32 years later.

I understand your intrepidation. She might like the worms, :D

When I fish at Guntersville Dam and tie up in the entrance of one of the trash gates I use one of my daughters kiddie rods, One is a barbie and another one is a sponge bob square pants to catch bream to use as bait for big flatheads in one of the slots for the gate where a short pole is needed. I get weird looks from time to time.:D

Those little poles work great...easy to store, no tangles, good action on the tip and who doesn't like scooby-doo:D

Except I find the quality of line that comes with these rods to be very poor.
