My OMC leg has a dip stick right in the very top of the outdrive. Lower the leg so the very top is roughly level, mine's on top under a large screw in the center.

They'll need your outdrive make to guide you for sure - did you say it was a Mercruiser in another thread?

You pull the top screw out and the lube should be at the bottom of the screw hole when cold. Your screw will be in the top side of your outdrive.

Ok so do i need to do this with the drive up or down? also so I take out the top screw and there should be oil on the end of the screw? Or do I have to look in the whole. If no oil on the screw do I need to add. Kinda confused because I have never checked oil like this before.

You need the leg down just about all the way to get on top.

You can top up leg oil through the dip hole (SLOWLY), but you don't fill it there if you are trying to fill the whole thing. Different legs have slightly different procedures, so you'll need to check on that - usually you start filling at a hole further down.

If there's nothing on the stick, try a screwdriver just to see if you get anything.

I heard that will mess a boat up if u fill it at the top hole because of air that can get in there.

Still confused how do i check it

I didn't say fill from the top hole. But you can top up very small amounts, poured very slowly.

You really need to check the service manual for your engine/leg. Try the IO forum, top post.
