My 9.5hp evinrude doesn't want to to stay running when I open her up. If I slow her down when hear the engine start to die it's fine, but if I just leave it open the engine dies. Someone on the forum suggested the high speed adjustment knob, but I don't know what that is and I couldn't find it on the evinrude spec cart. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

There is no high speed idle knob on my 73- 9.5. Next time you have it throttled up and it tries to die pump the fuel bulb real quick and see if that brings it back to life. If it does your filter is plugged or your pump is on it's way out. If that doesn't work let us know. Rick.

Are you refering to the filter on the back of the fuel pump? I replaced that when I bought the carb kit. Could I have done something wrong? thanks for the reply.

Yes that is the filter I meant. Sure you could have done something wring but I doubt it. It really sounds (at this point) that your running out of fuel. There is a High speed jet in the carb. that needs to be clean for you to get it going to it's full potential but if it is still dirty the symptoms would be more likely that it runs rough at high speed not that it quits. Try the bulb squeeze I mentioned earlier and that will rule out a bad fuel pump. Then we can go further into it if that proves the pump is fine. Rick.
