Considering mooring the boat at a marina about an hour away. No electric hook-ups available. I will install a float switch for the bilge but without electricity to power a trickle charger I'm afraid the bilge will run down the battery...and if the battery runs down...well, you get the rest.

Any advice?

do you have a known leak or are you just concerned about rain accumulation? What size/type of boat? How often can you check on it?

Not sure if there is any static water leaking. I've only run it once for about 4 hours and there was a good amount of water when I pulled the plug. Never thought about running the bilge when I was out and didn't check the bilge before I pulled the plug. SHort answer is I don't really know.

I don't consider myself a veteran or expert here, but I would advise you to determine if you are taking on water. Maybe start with a dry bilge and let it sit in calm water for a few hours and keep checking for water. In my opinion every boat needs an automatic bilge pump wired directly to the battery and it needs to be checked peridically. Maybe consider a backup pump with its own float switch. That won't help you if your battery is dead, but they should not have to run much at all except under heavy rain or splash.

Find out if there is a leak.

Then insure it for FULL VALUE.

Oh yeah if it does have a leak...fix it.
