Hi,
I have a 74 penn yan with a mercruiser 165 HP. I'm having two problems that are driving me nuts!
1. The engine fails to crank consistantly. It acts as if it has a bad ground or a dead spot on the starter. I can turn the key and it will fire right up. Then stop to refuel, turn the key again and hear the starter turn 1/4 turn, or nothing at all! I have replaced the battery, coil, starter, selenoid, battery cables and ignition switch. I have also rewired the complete bus bar under the dash. I have NO idea what it could be as it does it intermittently and either cold or hot.
Secondly, it has begun to run rough. I changed the points and it smoothed out nicely. Stopped for gas after a 3 hour run, started it back up and it began to run rough again. HELP!
