1975 Evinrude 75HP needle valve sticks

I rebuilt the carbs (3) last summer with new parts. More than once the needle valve (middle of the 3 carbs) sticks. After I take it apart it runs fine. What is causing it to stick? The needle style is all metal - no rubber tip.

Dose needle have a clip between the needle and float?

No, nothing attaches to the needle - it just floats freely (unless it is stuck).
