I am new to this site and starting to look for a wakeboarding boat but unsure of which one i should get. Here are the ones that i am lookin at:

1991 Mastercraft Prostar 190 with a 350 corvette engine

1992 Ski Supreme with a new 330 hp crusader engine

1995 Ski Nautique Signature Edition with a GT-40

All are round the same price but was lookin for the one that would create the best wake and perform the best. Also lookin for one for tubing and skiing as well but really want somethin with a good wake.

Hope you all can help b/c i dont know what to do.

And if you have any other info bout them, then that would be great.

Why show him a thread bashing wake boarders? :( From my limited exposure, Mastercraft makes an excellent boat. Do any of them have ballast bags? If you find one you really like but the wake is not up to par, you can always add ballast bags to most wake board specific boats. I would test drive all three and have a competant marine mechanic check out the engines and drives. Then, pick the one that tickles your fancy the most.

Also, look for one with some kind of cruise control like perfect pass or something to make keeping a steady speed a little easier.

I am not an expert by any means, but a quick search shows the prostar 190 and GT-40 are ski boats, not wakeboard boats. Ski Supreme makes both kinds and you didn't list the model.

There is a big difference. They are both true inboards, but ski boats have the engine in the middle of the boat facing toward the back and have a straight drive. Wakeboard boats have the engine in the back and have "V" drive, the motor faces forward and the "V" re-routes the power back.

Having the engine in the back helps have a big wake, having the engine in the middle actually dampen out the wake. Of course you can board behind a ski boat (and vice versa), if you want a big wake make sure it is a V-drive.

I think you may have meant the opposite.

Ski boats, engine forward, like a cars, Board boat, flywheel facing forward, acessories facing the stern.

I'm pretty sure we are saying the same thing.

Ski Nautique or Mastercraft for sure. I favor Nautique just because I owned one. The one thing I will say is a wakeboard boat is made for GLASS and not waves. As soon as the water gets ruff you get off. It's like a 59 VW with cement in the car. A very ruff ride.

Make sure you get a wakeboard boat if that's what you want!

Lots of boats are made to look like them but are not.

Oh and no boat has a Corvette engine or any engine from a GT-40 what works in cars doesn't in boats, find out what the engines really are or just scratch them off the list.

It was already mentioned to some extent. However, I think it is worth stating again.

Those boats are ski boats. They are designed to make small wakes that are desireable for slalom skiing. A true wakeboard boat will be very different than a ski boat. Ballast bags and other additions can make a ski boat a better wakeboard boat but it will never be as good as a dedicated wakeboard boat.

I do not wakeboard or ski. However, to me it seems that for about the same money you can get a newer sterndrive powered boat and a wakeboard tower that will probably perform better than a direct drive ski boat for wakeboarding.

Re: What Wakeboard Boat Would Be Better

these are ski boats but it has little to do with engine placement. a direct drive inboard will make a similar sized wake as a v drive with proper weight. may not be the same shape but nobody here boards good enough to know the difference.

the real drawback to the mastercraft and the nautique, don't know about the ski supreme, is the freeboard...they sit low in the water. the side of the boat will come up to not much higher than your knee when you're standing in it. this reduces your ability to carry weight, gives you a wetter ride too.

the mastercraft is closed bow, that's alot of lost space for people. if you ever use fat sacs, you'll have even less room for people...not sure about that model of nautique. the mastercraft 205 hull is one of the better wake producing hulls made.

the corvette engine is a gimmick, wakeboard boats are running truck engines if anything. the GT40 reference is to the heads on that block.

the engine packages in all 3 are fine...make sure you like the inside of the boat and take some rides behind them on your wakeboard too.

why is the 95 nautique priced similarly to a 91 mastercraft? sounds odd

see if you can find a mid-90's supra sunsport (not earlier than 92!)
