How and what do you need to attach control cables to a 2006 15hp Johnson??
With the cable type tiller throttle and the front mounted shift lever, for the life of me I can't figure out how the cables attach, or where. It was obvious on older motors.
I assume there is some sort of adapter kit but I'll be hanged if I can figure it out from the OMC website. They assume that you know exactly what you need... and the site is sooo user friendly.
Bought the motor brand new, last one in the dealer's stash. He bought up all he could when he got word that OMC was dumping their small motors.
My plan is to fit my Smokercraft 15ft. Alaskan up with stick steering and remote controls in order to move my behind forward and trim the boat by "adjusting the loading" by moving the biggest load.
Inspired by Tashasdaddy's posts!
Unless the Ezy Glide connection kit will mount right up under the motor clamp (and it looks like it might?) I have another problem. The Smokercraft transom has a single large knee in the middle that extends to just below the motor's clamp pads. If I can tuck the thing right under the pads it looks like it would work. If not there is a Teleflex transom support kit the should do it.
First off though I need to know how to actually connect to the motor...
Thanks for any help you can suggest! tk

they make an adapter kit for the cable connections, under outboard accessories, drop down menu. http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=bf6ad09c53cead335fcfd8a6471c0f7f

yes teleflex also has a transom adapter.

your motor should have a tilt tube for the steering rod to go thru. look at the stern bracket.

Thanks!
I thought that's what I found there, but they leave you kinda clueless as to what exactly you do with the kit. I can make a guess, but not exactly an educated one... and yeah I'm going to feel real dumb when someone actualy shows me where it goes.
Obviously, the next step is to truck on over to Carl's Boats & Motors and see if he has the kit (he should) and then just ask him. They're real good about explaining things (especially if you actually buy something!)
Got my eye on a nice used control box.
Went outside in the rain and looked again, while the rain water dribbled out the drain hole onto my shoe. This motor does not have a tilt tube that I can see, unless one has to remove the bolt that seems to run through where the tube would be. Don't think I want to remove that bolt to find out. Well If I have to ask the dealer about the cable kit any way.
Plan to brush up on my tinsmithing and copy your bracket too. Perhaps make one out of an old computer case (great source of free aluminum)
Thanks again. tk
