My engine flooded with oil last week because of a leak on the VRO pump. So every day when I can home from work I cracked the engine to burn off the oil with no water attached. It would just choke up and shut of in second or 2, I would do this about 2 times a day for the last 3 days maybe 4. Well yesterday it finally stayed on so I shut it off and connected the water to the engine to finish burning the oil out and there was not one drop of water coming out from the top of the engine where it shot it out. I have a new impeller since I was going to change out the pump this week anyway, My question is once the pump goes bad shouldn't it still pump put at least some water???? Because not one single drop was coming out with the water connected. Is there some thing else I should check??
Thank you,
Chris

water doesnt come out of where??

the **** spout? or the propeller exhuast?

or EITHER???

I cranked my motor over on the ramp for 10 years to make sure it started before i unloaded the boat from the trailer.. and I never ruined an impeller..

although I do accept the suggestion now...to not do it..

Bob start you motor at home on muffs, before leaving.

check the hose from block to outlet, kritters love to live in there and clog the hose. weedeater string works great. common problem in the south.

Re: 1988 Johnson 70 Hp Water Pump

I have had mud wasps clogg up my tell tale hose many times...because my boats were used during the winter more than they were used in the summer..

Tashasdaddy: I usually take my boat out more than an hour before light on cold cold days....., days when the garden hose would turn solid!!!

the really really cold days are the days I usually cranked her over , above the ramp...because i never knew if the coldness would kill my battery and or make it real hard to start and not turn over.

figured id save launching time..and it would be easier to trouble shoot or change batteries in the lot than in the water.

I have taken my boat out in LONG ISLAND SOUND when it was -9 degrees F!!

Ill probably just monitor the battery better, have a back up and crank her over in the water from now on...not keep pushing my luck

Re: 1988 Johnson 70 Hp Water Pump

There is no water coming out of the **** spout, I just finish replacing the impeller it not too bad looks a little bent out of shape but should have pumped water up to the engine. I am having trouble putting the shifter rod to the piece that holds it together, the rod where it connects has some sort of spring thing that doesn't allow me to put the screw in without having it all the way though. I will go out there and give it an other try. I will see if this fixes the no water out the **** spout problem.

Thanks for all the help
