Does any company offer an "affordable" power tilt and trim system for the smaller outboards? Or, has anybody ever used a 12V hydraulic pump and cylinder and fab'ed their own system?

I don't think there are any affordable tilt and trim system made (all about 500). Building one would be tough getting the right stroke, if it doesn't stop at the right spot somethings gotta give. I would see if there was anything oem for a 15 or 25 hp that could be made to work.

I can see where too long of a stroke would cause problems but a little to short should work OK, right?

Anything can be made., That's what made this country great. keep me updated I'm interested. If you can find one the old johnnys and evinrudes hade very simple tilt motors that may work.

What for? Motor's too small to need tilt. Trim for shallow water: try different diameter dowels, tied to a string, under the motor.
If there's a physical limitation for pulling up the motor, replicate the engine levers made for larger engines--they are too long for small engines.

Your right, unless there are physical limitations it's not needed. But if it remote steering it sure would be handy not to run back everytime you wanted to tilt the motor.

Well it is remote, stick steer at the front of the boat. There are some shallow spots in the river near me that I can make it through with the motor trimmed up but I have to stop and go to the back of the boat and do it manually. Not that its hard, just would be nice to keep it on plane. I have found a small cylinder that I can make work, now I just have to find a 12v pump in my price range, probably the hard part.

Good luck with this one. Although I would like to see it, if I were you I would keep it close to the vest. I can see a potential market out there for an affordable universal tilt unit for smaller motors. There are people with physical limitations and alot of remote steer river boats that could make use if it.

You really have me thinking now and looking around my garage foe simple solutions to this. Anyhow, I just walked past the wifes treadmill and looked at the incline motor. Small worm drive motor and screw that raises the rear of the deck. Able to lift several hundred pounds. Hummmmm

Lets face it. Boating has nothing to do with "need" . If you think it would make your boating experience better, get one. That said, I know some new 4 strokes in the 9-10hp range now are available with PT&T but don't know of any aftermaket fix's that are less than $400+.
FWIW, I agrivated a hernia pulling my 15 merc 2 stroke up/down frequently. When I went to the new boat/rig, PT&T was high on my priority list.

I agree about the convenience and "need" comments--and can understand on a remote steer how it would be nice to have, since I seem to be out at perpetual low tide.
So now we are intrigued; somewhere in the midwest a woman is losing her treadmill.
I think that if you want to trim while at planing speeds you'll need something strong to work against the pressure; if you are trimming a low speeds while feeling your way through the shallows you don't need as much. You also don't have much leverage unless you want a frame. Finally you need power, which typically isn't present on a 9.9 boat unless you run a trolling motor.

Re: 9.9hp power tilt and trim Manually!

I need some kind of strap, etc. so I can manually lift my 9.9 motor. I just want to pull it up when I'm docked to keep it out of the water from moss, etc., but I'm a short woman and I can't reach it. Any ideas for a manual strap type thing?
