motor mount question

well i know theres a sailing section but no-one checks it.
I have a san juan 21' and i'm going to buyan adjustable motor mount from west marine. i am using a short shaft motor. how far below the water should the motor be? the one i am looking at has 14' of travel.\

14' of travel should get the motor well below the water....hehe. You want the cavitation plate of the motor even with the bottom of the transom.

you have a keel and everything
and a displacement hull not a planing hull
