Re: Battery wiring?

Hi,

I depends on your end goal. You could put a battery isolator in the system to run off one battery and keep the other one charged for accessories or use a battery disconnect switch to isolate the two batteries using the back up for emergencies. I use one 27 series batteries in my boats except for my big one where I have two 27 series with a isolator and a disconect set-up. I don't like to be stranded on the water. I have not yet learned how to walk on it yet and tow trucks refuse to drive out to me.

Re: Battery wiring?

To create a 12v system that uses 2 batteries just get 2 short battery cables and hook + to + and - to -. Put an isolator switch inline with the pos cable. When charging your batteries (I always unhook all motors and accesories) just open the switch and hook the chargers to one battery. I don't know what you are trying to accomplish but there are fualts with this system. Say your boat battery goes dead and you want to open the switch to use the other battery. It would be best to move the motor leads to the good battery. Voltage is like water in that it will find its own level. Just opening the switch will cause the good battery to drain into the bad one and you end up with 2 batteries that have low but even voltage. If your starting battery went dead it probably wouldn't be a big deal as they don't get drained that far down That if you opened the switch the motor generator may charge it back up while allowing you to use the other battery. If it was the accesory battery that went dead it is probably completly drained and its not likely that the motor wil charge enough to keep up and end up having 2 dead batteries. Let us know what your end goal is and we can help you better.
