I have an (older) Big Jon downrigger. Actually has a Sears sticker on it but the reel and pulleys all say Big Jon and isidentical to a Big Jon with the stainless curved arm, base,

While I was in New York fishing, the plastic tension/clutch knob split, and a friend picked me up a pair of new ones at Dattilio's. However, the new ones have a coarse 7/16? thread and my downrigger shaft apears to be maybe a 7/16 fine hread or pipe thread.

Anybody run into this before?

Any info on this? I can call Big Jon, but rather than deal with the wait for mail order, I would just as soon re-tap the knobs, but I am not sure of the thread. Can anyone help? I am surprised I haven't had any replies.

Are you sure it's not a metric thread?

I think your best bet would be to give Big John a call and get the proper replacement. I've dealt with Big John's customer service and they're top notch and they ship very quickly.

I should have followed up on this. I was sold the wrong package. I have the right knobs now but for everyone's info here it is:

Big Jon manual downriggers have a different thread in the knob than Big Jon electrics. I was given knobs for electrics as Datilios assumed I was running electric downriggers.
