Little background. Bought this boat about 3 years ago from a used dealer. Ran great. He advised to get it lake ready every year. 2nd year, took it back to him, he made it ready, ran great...no probs. This year, he is retired. I drove the boat a little on the water and it ran fine, but wanted to keep up with the "lake ready regiment". Took it to someone else. they replaced the spark plugs and said it ran fine and was ready to go. (Also have a hydraulic prob with the tilt that they fixed.) Took it to the lake...A little hard to start, but not bad. Going out onto the water picking up speed it surges. Even at top speed it surges, but not as bad, it's smoother. Took it back. They changed the Fuel line. Back to the lake...now we can't get the motor down. Finally keep messing with it and down it goes. Out on the water, same problem. Needless to say, I'm not taking it back to them. I'm not skilled at repairing motors, but not afraid to try to check things out on my own with some good instructions.
Thanks
Tami

First thing to do is go to Advance Auto and buy three Champion UL18V plug. They are about $2.99 each. Replace the plugs and see what happens.

Get back to us.

So you're saying they may have put the wrong plugs in? Or maybe there's a better plug to use? I'll buy them and change them and let you know.

Since you said that it ran great before they changed the plugs, you can put a new set in to see if that is the issue.

Addtionally, surging can result from fuel delivery problems, high float levels, blocked carb passages to name a few.

Make sure you have new gas in the boat.

The boat is at a friends lake house. And I'm positive the gas is new because when I took it out Thursday they neglected to put gas in it and it was on empty! We don't have an advance auto around here. I'll check other auto stores.

I checked the spark plugs and they begin with NG, I think. I ran can of Sea Foam thru the engine and it seemed to help some. I checked all the vacuum lines and they are all attached. I can't find the Champion UL18V spark plug around this area. I will need to order it online. Is this the spark plug I need instead of the NG?

Actually, there are two plugs for a 90 horse engine. The 90-91 years used the UL18V, the 92 to 99 used a Champion L76V or NGK BUHW.

Sorry for the confusion.
