Getting ready to do my 20 hr maint (09' 30 4stroke). The dealer (who was clearly multitasking /distracted as we spoke), handed me Sierra Type C lower unit oil. Now, In reading the label, it specifies use in electric shift outboards. Did he mess up or is this a wash?Should this be used in my new OB gearcase or should I go shopping again??

He screwed up. That's the only lower unit lube you can't use. You need any EP 90 fluid.

Thanks Guru, Fast and accurate response as always. It's not the $5 but he really PO'd me now! I'm off to the local auto parts /wal-mart now. No OB dealers open on sundays around here. :-(.

Yep, you want EP lube, not type C. In a pinch, C would be better than none at all. Type C is for the old electric-shift LU's.

This guy had a shelf FULL of type C and no other. Disapointing service from a factory authorized tohatsu dealership :-(. I got the right stuff (quicksilver) at wal-mart.
