I am new to this site, and also a green horn as a mechanic. I have a 85hp 1986 chrysler force, after new impeller and spark plugs seemed to be running fine. Now starts and idles good, but soon as I give it throttle it dies out. Is this a carb problem? If so what is the easiest way to pull the 3 bowls stacked on top of each other? I appreciate any input. Thank you.

Hard to say with the info you have given so far.

What do the plugs look like? When was the last time they were changed?
What is your compression? How about your idle RPM?

Where is the idle mixture needle set on each of the carbs?

Have you decarbed the engine this season, or ever?

Let us know,

John

Thank you for the reply. I just put new spark plugs in last week and have the same problem. It was running great until I was towing the kids at low speed on the tube almost acted like it was loading up. I have not checked anything to do with the carbs yet. I did put a new stator on. What is de-carbing? How do you do it. Thank you for your time very much appreciated.

Decarbonizing is removing the built up carbon from the rings, piston and head area. It will help your engine to run more efficiently and, in some cases, the engine will feel new again.

The instructions for doing a decarb are found in the FAQ at the beginning of the Iboats maintenance forums.

Have fun,

John
