On the way to the lake yesterday we rolled by a couple of vehicles pulled off on the shoulder with a bunch of people standing in the grass. Turns out to be a car that got rear ended really hard by a truck towing a boat. The boat was still physically on the trailer, but pushed way forward on the trailer (likely did some good damage). The car had either pulled out in front of the truck or the car was turning off the highway and the people in the truck weren't paying attention. Not a good day for any of them involved.

Ironically enough the car in front of us slowed from 55 to 15 just to get a good look at the damage...fortunately I saw them in plenty of time to slow down. I can't stand it when people do that!

Figured out another pet peeve of mine the same day...boaters/jet skiiers that congest the immediate ramp area when there are others clearly in line ahead of them getting ready to trailer.

Re: Off water boat wreck

I was towing one just last week in city/interstate traffic, running the right lane, when some yahoo cuts from the left across me and into an exit ramp. I hit brakes instinctively and started to fishtail, but recovered only because she got all the way over and I could keep going. Scary. And to make it worse it was a boat and trailer I had only pulled once before.

I know it's been repeated on this forum millions of times, but people simply do not know how to drive! I was on one of those side roads that runs parallel to the interstate for a couple miles before you actually get on the interstate, and I admit, I was driving kind of fast, but what this grandma did in her huge Grand Marquis almost killed me. I was in the left lane the whole time, while she was in the right lane way ahead of me, there was no reason for her to switch lanes, no other traffic, no "exit only," nothing. Well, I am ascending a small hill about the time I catch up to her, and at the last second, she swerves in front of me doing about 30! I had to slam on the brakes, the car fish-tailed and acted like it was gonna go off the side (probably a nice 30 or 40 foot drop), but luckily by some miracle I recovered. My friend and I just sat there at a dead stop, catching our breath (no other cars anywhere at the time) and shaking like hell! Talk about a near-death experience. Well, I caught back up to this old lady, who had her son (I guess) with her, and I laid into her.
I normally am not like that, but come on, she coulda killed us! This took place in Florida, and the part that really ticked me off the most was the New York license plate on her car. Note to all northerners: first off, no offense to the few of you that do drive good, but DO NOT come down to Florida with these bad driving habits. Heck, we got bad enough drivers down here already, no need to add more.
