My wife and I are considering a move out to the LBL region and I'm wondering if anyone here either lives there or goes there often enough to give a recommendation for an area to live/work?

We're both white collar workers, so somewhere commutable to a good sized town is best, but far enough away to have some land. Of course, if we can find a decent house on the water, we'll forgo the land and just be happy having a dock instead.

We're still fairly young and not plastic surgeons, so the under $200K market is our market.

Anyone know the area well enough to recommend areas to live/areas to avoid? I'm not looking for a politically correct answers, but real world, honest answers. Thanks for any help you can give.

We'll be going there in the coming months to check it out and hopefully decide on a few areas we like. Hopefully there are a few iboaters to meet up and share a brew with while we are up there.

Paducah Ky and all the surrounding areas are nice, You can easily find plenty of home off the lake and still be close to work, I live 25 min away, everywhere else is closer:), You can find plenty here, look at the map closely at the towns close by.

Ahh, you guys camp the way we like to, as well. A tent, some fire and lots of hang out time. We're going to try for fall to check out the area. I think as long as work is obtainable, it sounds like it will be our next place to live. An area which caters to outdoors people.. couldn't be better in my eyes.

Thank you so much WavenBye! I will definitely take you up on the offer. It will be great to have a local guide who knows the area.

I live in Murray KY, great college town and small community. Only about 10 Miles to the KY lake. Its a bit smaller than Paducah, but has everything you need.

Lowkee we are just up the road a piece in Louisville . We have been here about 15 years and love it here ( Grew up in Floriduh ) . Theres water everywhere here and no salt :D. I live in an area outside of the city called PRP as you can see from my location LOL. The people here are great cost of living isnt bad especially compared to Fl. Houses in my area run between $100,000 and $250,000 you cn get higher if you go towards the east side of town . Property prices are not to bad theres a 5 acre plot just up the road from me for $22,000.00 .

Well, it's official! We are heading up to LBL on Sept 3-8 to do some prospecting (of the home sort) and just generally checking out the area. We are going to backcountry camp to keep the cost low. I'd love to meet up with everyone while we are up there. Maybe make a mini forum meet-up for some locals.

Any other people local to LBL willing to join in a meet-up?

We're at the lake quite often. My wife's family has a condo at Moon Bay Harbor which is super nice and not far from civilization. I think the 2 bedroom condo's are $250K and the 3 bedrooms top 300K. If I had my choice, I would live there. Here is more info: http://http://moonbayharborrealty.com/aboutcondos.html

Grand Rivers, Kuttawa, Eddyville are all nice. I think the upper part of Barkley is absolutely beautiful. We've actually been keeping our eye's open for some water-front property on Barkley.... as the economy gets worse, the deals get better! :)

There are alot of places to live there, Paris, Camden, just across in Kentucky. If you want bigger city I would go little closer to Paducah. Paris is small town but offers alot of country living and right on the Tennessee River, cross the bridge and you are in LBL. Nashville is only hour and half from Paris. Anyway there is little more information for you.
