Ive never seen a boat hit, but Ive seen a 14 foot C band sat dish get hit. or rather the aftermath of it.
Dish, Gone
Cable, gone
grass, gone
Garage where the lightening stopping surge protector was.... still there but a big hole in it.

if its large enough , it could retain some voltage (static electricity) as a capacitor.

Not trying to diss you here, but I can't imagine any way the crane can hold onto a charge????
Rub your feet on a shag carpet, wait thirty seconds, then touch a lamp socket or any grounded conductor. (Snap). Even something relatively small in mass and not very conductive can "hold" a charge for a while until it dissipates.

You are correct...it can't. A crane can't hold a charge....at least not long enough for you to possibly feel it. The tires would have to be completely clean with 0 humidity for it to possibly hold a charge.

Looks like a toupee dispenser to me! Would that still be considered a medium/fast action lightening rod?

No fun in that. Reach down so the cat can smell your hand.
