I have a 2000 Johnson 150hp ocean pro outboard motor. I just had the foot rebuilt and it was running good. My third time taking it out after the rebuild we ran the boat all day with no problems then on the way home it started acting up. When I was running at near full speed (4500 rpm) the engine sounded as if it was slowing down so I immediately put it in neutral and it stalled. It started right back up and the same thing happened a minute later. Finally the last time it happened the engine locked up. You can hear the starter try to turn it but it doesn't turn over. I tried a couple more times to start it and it turned over and stared making an awful clanking sound so I shut it off immediately. As of now it wont turn over anymore. Is it possible that there is an issue with my rebuilt foot? Any advice would be appreciated.

possibly if it started slowing as it slowed did the motor sounds as if it was under exessive load try to go like it was bogging out

if so the foot may be messed try pulling off the foot and see if the motor will trun also when it neutral can u turn the prop easily

The prop does spin easily in neutral. It did sound as if it was under load. It sounded like someone grabbed the throttle and gradually started to throttle down the engine even though I was still going 4500 rpm. I don't think the boat actually started to slow itself down but, I put it in neutral so quick its hard to tell. I will try to remove the foot and see if I can turn the motor.

Pull the foot off and see if it turns over, if not, it might have gotten hot, or was starved for oil and set up. I hope not. Good luck.
