I have a old green 16ft carevelle. (1967)
It has a running Johnson 100 hp. (1967)
Ive replace the whole floor and carpet, seats, vynol,
also replace. Key switch, new battery, start, and start sylanoid, coil
tires, bearings. sorry about the spelling.
The old boat looks and runs good just want a bigger one.
we've had a blast with it this summer.
What Im looking for is what is it worth.
I can not find another one like it.
Someone told me I may have a prize since it was so old and
runs and looks good. but I dont know. any ideas?

The sad reality is $1000.00 to $2000.00 max if you can find someone who actually wants an old small restored boat . You would most likely actually make more money off her parting her out . The sad truth is boats unlike automobiles do not go up in value with age even when restored . The exception to that rule would be a Mahogany Chris Craft and then only due to their original build quality and rarity. I have a 1960 Cutter 14' runabout with a 1959 Mercury Mark 58A motor hangin off of it . The boat in my avatar it was only made from 1956 to 1962 and ws made by a local Indiana company. The boat is actully in amazing ogiginal condition . I watched craigslist for 2 months while the guy who had it strted with a price of $550.00 and after dropping it several times I ended up getting it for $350.00 . I could most likely double my money by putting the outboard and controls on Fleabay and then turn around and almost double it agin by selling off the accessories off the boat and the perfect windshield. Even though it is an extremely rare boat I know its worth more in pieces than fully restored . I do plan to restore it when I get done with my Starcraft but I dont think I will make anymore off of it restored than I could sell the parts off of it for now.

They just aren't worth much. Even if it runs great I don't think you could even get close to $2,000, too many other newer boats in that price range.

The sad part depending on where you live that 100HP Johnson is most likely worth more by itself then it is on the boat around here a good strong 100 HP outbord will go anywhere between $1500-$2000. I relly didnt mean to burst your bubble but theres ALOT of boats for sale right now due to the economy .

Rick

heres the funny part, im thinking about buying another boat with a good running outboard (larger than what i have now) because the price of an outboard by itself is MORE! case in point, i see a mid 80's johnson 85hp on craigslist WITHOUT controls for $1400.

then I see a 16' bayliner with almost the same motor for $1300. motor HAS controls, plus you can sell a decent trailer for $500-$700. a person could even turn around that same boat and trailer with no motor for $800... I could have me a nice motor for a few hundred bucks.

A decent trailer is often the only way to get rid of an older boat.

A good outboard is often the only way to get rid of an older boat.

Boats can drag the value of the other equipment down.

If the engine was a real good runner I'd keep that and sell the boat/trailer cheap, maybe $600-1K, if the trailer is really good I'd keep that too,
so that leaves the value of the boat at very little or nothing.

Its not worth restoring an undesirable hull, in future I'll stick to a short list, whalers, Mako, Seacraft, Grady's , a few more.

Sadly some of the non tinny boats I see being restored aren't gonna be worth much more than the materials going into them, my own included.

in all fairness, they are worth whatever you want then to be... to YOU. may not be worth that to someone else though.

my boat is worth 8 million to me. probably $1500 to someone else.

Hey I'm with ya there dude! Boats aint all jst dollar value. Especially if it's something you've put alot of work into. I guess maybe this is a guyz version of having things with "sentimental value". ;) You can't really put a price tag on it. Least ways....not one someone else would make any sense out of. :D
