Coil vs Resister wire

I am going to take the time and replace some of the wiring in the engine compartment. One item I would love to replace is the resister wire leading to the coil. right now it is just laying to the manifold (can't be coiled or wrapped up. Would it do any harm to replace it with regular copper wire and install a resistor coil? the ign system is a Malory (pointless) system and I am very happy with it.

I Had An 74 Reinell Omc Stinger W Res Wire Coil-changed To Internal Res Coil-all Ready Had 12v Power From One Wire For Starting Then Ran Through Res Wire After Started-ran Great-hope This Helps.

I guess it would be the same eather way. the resistor wire is newer technology than the balist resistor tho, and it works without producing as much heat. There is also less chance of corrosion with the wire.
But as long as the voltage coming out is the same there should be no problems, in that respect anyway.

Ps-almost All Ballast And Res Wire Set Up Were Bypassed While Cranking-to Supply More Voltage-and W Key On Eng Running Res Circuit Kicked In To Prevent Coil Overheat.

My '75 OMC with 302 ford has the points/ballast resistor system. Is it just a matter of removing the resistor from the circuit and changing the coil, or is there other wiring changes required?

yes-single 12 volt feed to internal resistor coil-i had a 74 omc reinell w ford 302-after coil change started in 1 second every time.
