:confused:I have a 95 vip vhull boat w/5.7. It seems to take a little to much throttle to get on plane. I have a 14.5x19p 4blade prop and was thinking of buying a bigger hydrofoil. But what i dont understand, is that i see other vhull boats without hydrofoils on them. I thought you had to have one on to get on plane better.

It could be several things. Is this a recent problem, a slowly worsening problem, or has it always been like this? Is the engine been properly maintained and tuned up? Are you reaching your recomended RPM's at WOT with the prop you have? Is the prop hub in good condition? (Hub not slipping?) Is the hull in good condition and clean? Has it been stored outside uncovered? You could be lugging around a lot of water saturated foam under the floor.

You shouldn't NEED a foil to get on plane. "was thinking of buying a bigger hydrofoil" Do you have a foil on now? If not, and all the items I mentioned above are ok, I would look at a set of Smart Tabs before adding a foil. I have them on my boat and they made a huge difference in getting up on plane quicker with way less bow rise. Do a search on Smart Tabs vs Foils and you will find the majority prefer the tabs.

You haven't described a problem that a (or bigger) foil would really be the correct solution for. Tabs will be the best bang for the buck and also be the correct product and they will probably work better than you think.

Vip, a foil can easily take 3 to 4 MPH off your top speed. If you will give us your wide open throttle RPM and speed we can run analysis for prop slip and see how the prop you have is currently doing, although as a 4 blade it ought to be doing great.

What size/weight is your boat? The smart tabs suggested are an excellent addition.Your boat will plane easier, stay on plane with less power,handle/ride better and the tabs will reduce no wake speed wander.
