Hi All

Just curious. Could someone ski or be pulled on an innertube or similar inflatable toy behind a bayliner 2750 27' or some similar cruiser?

Thanks

The nuclear carriers can go 55 mph and could take all 5000 personel water skiing as long as there were 2 left on board: one to drive and one to spot. But it would take 2 miles to stop and then turn around and get the guy who fell, It would wear out your patience to teach someone.

Technically, yes. Practically, no. I see big boats pulling people all the time but it's not a good idea if you do it often.

For wakeboard, knee board and skiing you want to get out of the hole fast; big boats don't do this well. Tubing is not a sport so it doesn't matter.

The boat I just bought is "too big" if you skiied every day for a couple of hours. But for occassional trips it's fine. 21'. The 17' is better but we ski close by the dock so you don't have to take the whole family tree in the boat at the same time.

It can be done. Not done easily, and might not be enjoyable for the skiier/tuber, though. It just takes too long for the boat to get on plane. So the skiier/tuber is dragging through the water. A skiier would have to be really patient, and not try to pull themself up. But that's what most novice skiiers do. If they do that, they'll fall over backwards everytime, before the boat is on plane.

Good luck.

I find one of my hardest problems pulling younger tuber's (say 13 and down) is going slow enough and staying on plane. Most youger kids are happy around 18mph or so. Depends on if you're looking to "sling" them around or not.

Get Smart Tabs and you won't have that problem anymore!

I can't imagine a 27' cruiser NOT having adjustable tabs!

But if you don't already have them, a boat that size will see a huge difference with a set of helm-adjustable tabs (Bennett, Lenco, etc).

1st it is possible, but before is say yes, how is the boat powered, single I/O twins, motors and drive system. twin 8.1's no problem. single 4.3 the skier will die before he gets up.

There won't be any twin 8.1s in a 27' cruiser. Least of all a Bayliner! It's probably got a 250hp 5.7 or the 5.0MPI at 260hp.

A skier, I agree... It probably could be done, but not the best boat to do it with. A tuber, absolutely. There is no balance or anything with tubing. You merely get dragged through the water.

BTW I have a 27' express cruiser with twin 3.7LXs... Not in the water yet, but you can be assured there will be many tubes pulled behind it.

cruiser with twin 3.7LXs...

My condolences, twice! :)

The only problem with tubing is being able to go slow enough and still stay on plane easily. I could see a 27' cruiser struggling to maintain plane at comfortable tubing speeds for smaller children. Lots of throttle arm work might be required.

Hate to add a new thing to worry about, but the discussion about CO poisoning behind a boat makes me think there would be a greater risk with a larger vessel--both due to the larger motor(s) and mass of the transom trapping fumes. Just be aware of it, especially with the little ones.

I have a similar boat. First, the 2750 is an old boat - with a carb 350/volvo outdrive. Mid 80s vintage. So skiing is out of the question unless a pro with great balance.

Tubing, however, is great with a big boat because the wake is so large. With adjustable tabs I can pull young kids at semi-plane speeds (12mph is popular) and keep the boat nearly level. Once I get on plane around 18mph the waves are pretty big and little kids get scared. Certainly you arent going to be whipping anyone around in a rig like this, but it is plenty fun. Because the boat is so heavy to start with, you wont even feel the dfference with a tube back there (unlike a small boat).

As long as you have a long rope, there is no CO2 worry.
