1985 150xp Outboard Problems!!!

ok 1985 evinrude 150xpwill not stay on. It turns over then starts running for a second then shuts off. seems like its not getting enough gas. The outboard was sunk then dried out and all the water was taken out of cylinders and fresh gas/oil was added along with gas treatment . Also Whenever i push in the choke to start it gas comes out of carb. Is that normal? Its my very first boat. Need help. I know the engine is not ruined because it will crank but then dies immediately. carb problem? gas pump or line problem? gasket problem? air? water or dirrt inside some filter? I dont know but im hoping on you may know. thanks. Next step is getting a mechanic out to it.

Carbs should have been drained. May be still some water and debris there, which is NG.

How do I go about draining the carbs? I pulled the back shell off and sprayed some formula 6-56 in them.

The float bowls need to be emptied (and maybe the carbs cleaned/rebuilt).

Hey is there any carb cleaners outside of B-12 that I could use? I was told not to use B-12 on a carb with a diphram pump on its motor.

I was thinking of the dip and soak overnight deal. Soft parts and plastic need to be kept out of the soak solvent. Haven't used B12, so can't comment on that.

Order 6 carb kits, you can get em right here on iBoats, approx $22 ea.
Watch this video in the meantime. Its EZ.
Do one carb at a time, run small wire through the jets.
Spraying cleaner thru them doesn't do the trick.

Jonesg not trying to step on your toes here but that motor only has 3 carbs that are double throated so you will only need 3 rebuild kits for this particular motor and they are very simple to rebuild. Just get a manual so you can also see how to link and sync after you reinstall them. Good luck.

Thank you guys so much. This is why I love the interent. Im hoping that the carb is actually the problem.
