Re: Breaking News On Cracked Blocks!!!

This is nothing new. People have been "repairing" cracked blocks for decades with epoxy, JB Weld, MarineTex... Pick your gooey stuff of choice.
I say "repair" because it is only a band aide. And most band aides fall off over time. Some people do get lucky and have the patch last forever.... some not so much. If anything make sure you don't take this boat any further out than you can swim back!!

Thanks for the advice and I will certainly not take it out too far, but I also have a good bilge pump, so if it does begin to leak i got the pump to beat it now! I will be prepared as much as possible.

Sure, what the heck! An interesting experiment, anyway. Sounds crazy. Is crazy. But something you'll talk about for some time! Look at it this way: at least when it does eventually break up, you can won't need a hoist to remove the litte pieces. ;)

Sorry for the bad luck, though- seriously, that sucks. I wish, for your sake, that this would have been discovered during the test drive.

you are one brave man. I wouldn't even take my boat out this week end because my battery was dead. charged it and it started right up but still woud not take it out because I dont know what caused the battery to die. I dont want to be stuck on the water!!

Re: Breaking News On Cracked Blocks!!!

I also have a question. Don't you think that a person has a legal responsibility to inform a buyer of catastrophic failure like a cracked block. He said it ran great and the boat didnt leak water.

of course he has that responsibility. even with an "as is" bill of sale, in most states that type of deception is illegal. but you really should have taken a long test ride to check for this stuff (well, ok, i bought my current boat on it's trailer, too........ but i knew and trusted the guy!)

i tried jb weld on a pontoon bracket once. it lasted about 2 months. the welder bitched me up and down about having to grind it out. i agree with the others that your engine's thermal cycling will probably cause more leaks. if you had stop drilled the ends of the cracks first, maybe... but that's getting kind of ridiculous!
