so ive read through other previous postings on here that if my reg/rec is working improperly that my battery will not charge and that my tach will not work...so on that note...

ive had the motor on my boat changed from 110 hp johnson to a 90 hp evinrude about a month ago and im not sure if the mechanic improperly hooked up the rectifier wrong in the wiring harness of if its just bad in general...but before i go jumping down the mechanics throat, i want to be able to test it to see if its good or not...

is there anyone who can help me out on sending me in the right direction on how to test it or having any links to a site that can direct me on how to test it.

You can tell if it's working very easily. Just measure the DC voltage across the battery terminals with the motor at fast idle. If less than 13 VDC, clearly not charging.

well first step is understanding what they do. secound is finding them and knowing what to test for, I think the manual has both those answers.

Before acusing a mechanic probly should have the manual and have hard specs. not " this guy on the internet said...."

Why in the world would whomever rigged the boat do anything with the motor wiring under the hood? Just not part of the rigging process ... the rigging is all with the external wiring harness. Of course, stranger things have happened!

"that doesnt answer weither its hooked up or not working." It sure does tell if it's working!
