OK I just picked up a new boat yesterday and I think it may not have the right prop but I could be wrong. Here is the answers to your questions. And I believe the prop is SS but I don't care if I stick with it or not.

1. Year, make and model of boat
1993 Four Winns 190 Horizon LE

2. Length, width and base weight of boat, look for boat decal on back of boat
20.08' long, 7'4" Beam, 2640 LBS

2a.What is the recommended HP for your boat
190

3. Number of people and gallons of gas normally on boat
3 people and 35 gallons fuel

4. What do you use the boat for
Cruising, skiing and tubing

5. Is it a Deep Vee and if so how many degrees of deadrise
18

6. Year, make and model of motor
1993 5.0L-HO/V-8

7. HP and gear ratio of motor IMPORTANT
190 1.59:1 Gear ratio

7A If you have a mercruiser and don?t know the ratio get your serial off the outdrive and go here http://www.sterndrives.com/mercruisersterndrives.html

8. Manufacturer?s recommended Wide Open Throttle (WOT) range
4400-4800 or 4600-5000 not sure which one

9. Anti-ventilation Plate height above keel of boat if it is an outboard in inches

10. Is it a bass boat or does it have a pad bottom
No

11. Does it have a hydrafoil, dolefin or trim tabs
No

12. Make, model, diameter, pitch and whether SS or aluminum prop
14-1/4 x 19 SS

13. WOT RPM and speed from your current prop and how much gas and how many people were in the boat for the test data and is the speed by GPS. If you do not have a tach you can buy a Tiny Tach for $ 50
3 people 35 gallons fuel WOT 46 MPH at 4800 RPM w/ outdrive trimmed up
3 people 35 Gallons fule WOT 42 MPH at 4800 RPM w/ outdrive down all the way

14. Are you at sea level or a higher elevation, give us the elevation in feet
1100

15. Has your motor been tuned up lately and have you checked that the carburetor butterfly is opening all the way, checked compression, and looked at the plugs and checked spark, all of the forgoing could be the reason your prop is not attaining full RPM
PO says it was tuned in March Engine has 177 hours on it.

16. How long has this prop been on the boat and why, at this time, do you think it is the wrong prop
Since I got the boat yesterday but from reading it was supposed to have a 21 pitch new.

17. Does the prop show any damage that you can see
No

18. What problems are you trying to cure or what are you looking for the boat to do that it is not doing the way you think it should or to your expectations

Just want to make sure things are right.

Chris it appears that whatever SS prop you have it is running right at the top of the recommended range of your motor, whether it is 4,800 or 5,000 RPM with 3 people. You could change to a 21" pitch but you would lose about 400 RPM and i think you are better off running in the top of your recommended RPM rather than the bottom. And you could change to a 19" pitch 4 blade which would bring the RPM down about 300 more and give you better hole shot and acceleration, BUT if it is doing fine right now I wouldn't waste the money on a new prop, I would just keep what you have. I show with 3 people on the boat you only have a prop slip of 15% and that is not bad. When you are by yourself you are probably turning about 5,000 RPM and not knowing exactly whether your max RPM should be 5,000 or 4,800 I don't know if you are over recommended WOT or not. But just keep it at 4,900 or 5,000 max and you will be fine.

Thanks alot, I may look into the 4 blade in the future because I think the hole shot could be better but I will save my money for now. Thanks for all your help.

Hey hwsiii I was cleaning my motor up and there is a sticker that says max WOT is 4400 RPM for my boat can you redo your calcs and let me know if I am still in the safe range?

My book says the WOT was 4800-5000 and said the boat came stock with a 14.25 x 21p prop, but I have the original prop and a SS prop that are both 14.25 x 19p. I think I am running too high of RPM's, what do you think?

Before we do anything verify what the maximum RPM should be first and all the dealer to find out.

I will see if I can get that info when i get home tonight. Would it be on the inside of the hub because from what I can remember there is nothing on the outside?

OK there was nothing written inside but on the center outside this is what is stamped in hope it helps.

The letter A in a circle by itself

then TURBO followed by 014 1/4x19p

Let me know if this works, if not I may be able to put the stock 14-1/4x19p aluminum on and test it next week.

Re: hwsiii I would like your help again.

hris, it appears that the SS prop you have is a Turbo and that is a very good prop, it just doesn't have enough pith for your boat and motor. I would appreiate it if you would hange the prop to the 19" pith aluminum, as they normally don't have a lot of blade geometry and it is easier to analyze the ross over with a plain prop. After you get me these numbers I will be able to make a reommendation, I am sorry that you have to go through this.
