outboard fuel tank for inboard?

I have an 74 claifornia omega i/o 190 omc with a under floor fuel tank. The tank seems to have a slow leak that I cant find - its not the hoses where the hoses connect to the tank, this area is visible. My question is, can I use the 6 gallon plastic fuel tanks that I have for an outboard if I connect the 3/8 fuel line from the fuel pump on the i/o to the plastic fuel tank? Is there a tube in the tank to siphon up the fuel or does it just work under pressure from the pump bulb?

thanks

I know its not an elegant solution, I only want to use it temporarily until Ihave time to cut the floor and take the permanent tank out. I just wondered if anyone could tell me if it would work?

It'll likely work. I did it on my previous boat (volvo i/o)when I was diagnosing fuel/carb related issues. Glad I got rid of that headache.

Yes you can do that, but 6 gallons isn't a whole lot for an inboard. There is a pickup tube at the bottom of the tank. The bulb is just a primer that sucks fuel out of the tank and pushes it up to the motor. There is a fuel pump on the motor that draws the fuel up while its running.
