please help. Am having a problem with my outboard engine. it dies on me when i push to throttle forward to get it to go. It will idle fine and move to get past the bouys. As soon as you give it more throttle to move it dies. Pls help. I've checked the carbs, just bought and replace with kit. mechanic said it could be the stator....is that possible?. Do i need to check the compression?

Always check the compression first. It tells you if there's any reason to check anything else. It also gives you a comparison baseline from the last time you checked it.

Secondly give us some more info. Does the bulb go flat? Are the plugs good. Did it just start yesterday or has this been an ongoing problem.

No one will yell at you for giving to much information. Its ALL good.

Why don`t you check the ignition system with a meter, will tell you if need a stator or powerpack.

it could be also the throttle cable. it happened to me yesterday in the middle of the lake, where the cable meets the part that attaches to the motor. it separated and it would stall when accelerated but when started and decelerated it would run fine. just a thought

Bulb goes soft not flat. Plugs are good. Compression when cold (facing the engine left from the top) 100,100,80. Right 90,100,100. When hot from left 90,90, 80. Right 90,90,80.

Started it yesterday. thought it might be the battery not fully charged. It started about three weeks ago. I got into a patch of hydrilla. the alarm went off, shut it down and started it back in about 15 minutes. ran fine allday with noproblem until the second day, when i went fishing. i was cruising to another spot when it died on me. Thanks

could the stator or powerpack be a problem for it to cut off when trying to accelerate?.

Thanks

20 psi is too low compared to the others but thats not stopping it from running. Did you spray seafoam directly into the low cylinder and let it soak a while?

yeh along with a bunch of other things, you could throw $600 in parts at it or methodically work through the tests to isolate it.
To test the ignition parts you need the factory manual and a peak reading meter.

ebay has the meters $62 , thats a great price.

i think i would try a linc n sinc, covered in the OEM manual. the compression is not great, but still good enough to run. did you remove all the jets and clean them during the rebuild?

thanks for the heads up on ebay. i didn't spray the seafoam on the lower cylinder yet. i added some in the gas tank. I will try that later on today.

Then you probably need to rebuild the carbs again if link/sync doesn't do the trick,
run thin wire thru all the jets, blow out with compressed air or carb cleaner.

It was the powerpack. it fix the problem. The engine has a sync system (if am right) that have the power pack controlling the rev and the rpm. If you check with ohm meter it will tell you it ok. It will act different in water. Thanks everyone i really appreciate everything....IBOATS ROCKS
