I am in the process of repairing and old motor that has pitting on the inner exhaust plate and the corrosion has left a small hole on the alum. casting/ power head - see photo look at the bottom left side and you can see the corroded edge of the casting
The question is whats the best patching compound to use ?

Hi thanks for the input Not sure if the motors parts are still available? That would mean the entire Cylinder/Block would need to be replaced correct

You need to replace the "bad" castings. Only way to really be sure of a good repair to the motor. I don't really know of anyone that will attempt to repair a casting like that. I would certainly try it as an experiment as long as I had a replacement available when I screwed it up.

Hey thanks, after some intense searching today I found this stuff called after I posted... check this out

HTS 2000 http://www.aluminumrepair.com/aluminum_repair.asp It claims to be made of several allows and you use it with heat ( propane torch) claims to have more strength than cast alum. $65 bucks for a pound vs. $565 for 10 lbs of the ITW super titanium allow and you have to buy a case of 12 cans they won't break a case....where could I locate a new/used casting?

We have tried to use that in the industrial environment that i work in. It certainly sounds great but we have only found it to be a "band aid" repair till we can get a replacement part ordered and in house or made.
I certainly would not use it on something that could leave me stranded in bad weather somewhere.

Thanks very good input!

You are extremely welcome. My issue with that stuff is the melting point and durability of it when you put it back into service. Not something to think about 20 miles from shore with the paddles out !!!

Re: 1980 50 hp Johnson

Morning,
My plan is to get it running to see if there are any other issues with the motor while I am trying to locate anew power head or a parts engine with a good power head This would be my winter project to rebuild it with a replacement. I was giving this contact as a potential place to find what I need:
