Need temp sending unit, go by eng or boat or??

i have a 1977 Johnson 200hp v6 , and my temp sending unit is junk. do i go by the motor or the boat, or the guage to find replacement? it threads into a small bracket on the head and the tip touches the head for sensing. anyon happen to know a part number for this?

ya mine is reading 175 but a lazer temp gun one the place it touches says 140. i think its shot but cant find an ohms spec to test the sender .
