My '87 OMC 4.3L is dripping oil between the pan and the brass 90 @ the dipstick. The engine was rebuilt 4 years ago and I'm wondering if something was damaged in the process. I've removed the dipstick and 90, reinstalled the proper seal and dipstick. -Now it's leaking even worse. W/O pulling the engine, what are my options?

J B Weld or silicone, your choice.

Re: Oil @ dipstick/oilpan

I had to replace an O ring that was built into the oil pan, Found one that was on the thick side to replace the one on the pan because I could not find the right one to fit in the oil pan. I also added a paper gasket (1/6 thick) between the 90 an the pan. so far so good on leaks since the start of summer. you should be able to get the gasket material at a auto parts store.

Make sure you replace that 0-ring. That should do the trick. Just don't screw up the threads on that pan or the 90 that screws into it because those OMC parts for a 1987 OMC are probably no longer available...at least they aren't for the 305 which I had to replace.

Re: Oil @ dipstick/oilpan

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I replaced the o-ring and it was leaking even worse. I used a mechanics mirror and looked at the oilpan itself. Apparently the threaded bung in the oilpan is leaking near the bottom. I sanded and cleaned the area, then I used JB Weld around the perimeter. After it set up, I reinstalled the brass elbow w/ o-ring and the dipstick. I'm going out right now to put another bead on it and pray that this works. Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
