Will a 2000 lb winch w/ strap be sufficient for a 83' Kayot deck boat, 2700 lb net weight...Im assuming that is including the engine which is a 350 Merc V-8. Just want to make sure when I go up those 35 degree inclines my boat doesnt tumble off :)

I'm not sure if that includes motor and fuel, however get the biggest one you can afford or mount on the trailer

Re: Trailer Winch

My Eazy Loader trailer is rated at 3100 pounds and the Fulton winch says max pull 1800 pounds 1st layer and 900 pounds full spool. This is the factory setup for my Glastron GT-185 which weighs 2300 pounds dry, just shy of 3000 fully loaded. Think you should be okay, just don't rely on the strap to keep your boat on the trailer while driving. You need a safety chain connected between the bow eye and trailer to keep your boat from rolling off the trailer as a back up to the strap.

The bigger the rating the more secure you will be.

Yeah I actually picked up this;

http://www.farmandfleet.com/catalog/product.aspx?i=578513&h=060302001

which is only rated to 2000, Im thinking I might return it and order a Fulton...Ive heard some cheaper brands have problems with the gears getting torn up. my wife is on my butt to get it replaced so we can go out, but I dont feel like having a boat lay on the side of the road.

In addition to the winch , I do have a saftey chain, 1 strap over the gnwhale, one over the rear and two transom straps.

Do it right the first time and you'll save money in the long run. That's one of those things you don't have to pay a lot extra to be secure in peace of mind.

Reese is a pretty reputable brand.
