twin 454s bravo 3 drives
not fuel injected.
reccomended gap according to manual .35.
did not change cap/rotor or wires.



just got back from spending 2 nights on the boat
on the way home notice rich gas smell also smoking. got on plain ran fine oil pressure good
temp good/on the last leg of trip coming in to the cove it almost sounded and felt like we were runing out of gas when on plain but we did not because just filled up. then stbd engine stalled and cicuit breaker popped for stbd engine. I just replaced plugs before trip.several questions
1.could it be the carb people on long island we are having big problems with the ethanol in the gas
could it be fuel filter/fuel water separator/
2. could also my altenator be bad causing the stbd eng boat to stall.or possibly the batteries.port engine no problem.
alt drops to 10 at idle then rev up the engine volts go to 13/14 when this episdoe happen dropped to 10 and died.

Ayuh,.... The Fuel Smell is No Doubt a Carb Issue....
And,..
The Alternator should be producing 13.6Vs,.. All the time...

bondo you live on long island correct is there a place where I can go to see if alt is bad.
what should I check first as far as carb.
what about wires/cap rotor/ why would the circuit brkr pop on the stbd engine. any thoughts.would battery or alt cause these problemsas far as hesitation. TWIN 454S 1997 MERCRUISERS BRAVO 3 DRIVES

Ayuh,...Google up Chaumont,...
You'll see that I live about as Far away from Long Island as I can get,...
And still be in New York state....

what should I check first as far as carb.

Rebuild 'em,... That's probably also where the Hesitation is too...

could be weak spark check the points and clean if they look rusted or dirty also make sure you put some dielectric grease on the plugs when you put the wire back on the spark plug there might have a bad connection to the wire thats making you run rich I fixed a few rich problems on a couple engine's just by doing this

just got back changed cap/rotor/ignition sensor they were rusty and corroded
cant hurt its only money times 2 started right up idle was fine
checked plugs no wet or fouled plugs
also dropped the alternator going to take it to a shop that specializes in alternators/starters for marine and auto he will test once and for all
if bad said he will get me up and running for the weekend.
did load test with cables on and off just the battery /load show 13 volts 100%.
will keep you updated to let you know how i made out
ps new ignition sensor for the thunder bolt has a groundwire I grounded it to the block it came with direction but nothing about where to ground.
